Evan, winner of the J14 1x category at Lea Spring Regatta, recounts his first experience racing in a single scull
I recently participated in the Lea Spring Regatta, it was a fantastic race with a great atmosphere. There were many people of all ages from different parts of the club and our cake stall looked amazing. I had never raced in a single before and felt nervous but I felt like those nerves and excitement were shared by the other participants and the crowd.
The weather was perfect, warm with a faint breeze but the Novice Bend had already proved to be more difficult than it seemed, causing a few boats to crash, but once I was moving on the water I felt happy and free.
Lea Rowing Club is an amazing club which I recommend completely for anyone who is looking to row recreationally or competitively.
I have been rowing with Lea for just over two years and have fallen in love with the sport. Superb coaches, great equipment and fantastic people all around you.
